Educating our youth, who are tomorrows leaders, to protect and preserve our natural resources should be extremely important to all of us.  The Chisago SWCD feels strongly about this, check out the following links to the various educational opportunities that abound in Chisago County, and feel free to call our office with any questions or concerns at 651/674-2333.

Groundwater Education

8th grade science students in North Branch were treated to a hands-on “Ground Water Education Program” given by the Science Museum of Minnesota (SSM).  This opportunity was provided to all Chisago County Public Schools through a partnership between the SSM, the Minnesota Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts (MASWCD) & the Chisago Soil and Water Conservation District (Chisago SWCD).

Students had a great opportunity to learn how water moves through rocks below the earth’s surface, how it is stored underground, and how things that happen on the earth’s surface can affect the purity of our water.

Water is one of the most precious natural resources we’ve been given, we all need to be careful to protect it.  As all the snow thaws and our waters start flowing, remember to go out and clean up any yard waste (for example – leaves & pet droppings) before it enters any storm drains or bodies of water.

For more information on what’s going on in Chisago County regarding water quality and other environmental issues,  call our office at 651/674-2333.
